Happy New Year 2012!  It’s that occasion of year once more where we have the chance to create a fresh new start for a new new year!

quite than setting impractical goals or new year’s resolution that almost never build it into February… I’m inviting you to join me today in a journaling exercise to help bring true clearness and power to your intentions for 2012.

As I was responsibility my own arrangements for the New Year, there were 3 questions that came to mind… and instead of answering them in secret in my journal, I’ve decided to share my answers here with you.  As you read this post here today, I encourage you think concerning your own answers… and then share them in the comment box down below.  This way, we’ll inspire each other to go deeper and think better! And of course, putting things in lettering helps to clarify your thoughts and “make real” your intentions.  Plus, it’s gonna be a lot of fun!

Ok, so let’s get started…

Question #1:  In shiny on this last year, what am I truly appreciative for?

Expressing thanks is so important for so many reasons… it gets you into your heart, focuses your notice on the positive, and opens the door to creating even more positive, loving, and fulfilling life experiences.  It’s so true that you get what you look for… so the more you look for the blessings in life, the more blessed your life will turn out to be

For me, 2011 was definitely a year of main growth… Even though I knowledgeable challenges in my relationships, in my business, and in moving through old patterns and insecurities, I’m so grateful for ALL of it.  I learned so much about myself this year, becoming even more conscious of who I really am and what I truly want in life.  Each challenge was a wake up call to look deeper, become more genuinely connected, and make choices that are in full alignment with my inner truth.

And of course, I’m incredibly appreciative for the successes I’ve had this year, both personally and professionally.  With the launch of “MY WEB FORMULA” over the summer, I bankrupt my record for my most successful product launch yet.

I’m also so grateful for the beautiful friends I have in my life, for my family, and for all of the people I’ve connected with over this last year.  I’ve learned so much about what being in “true relationship” means and have become more aware of the multitude of blessings that are present within each relationship, each connection… whether it’s someone I meet in a café and only talk to for 20 minutes, or a friend I’ve known for years.

I’m so grateful for YOU… and for all of the people I’ve been able to reach through the incredible power of the Internet.  Thank you for reading my posts, watching my videos, opening my emails, and staying committed to your own personal and professional development.  This next year is going to be EPIC… and I can’t wait to share more about my new plans for 2012!

In August of this year, I got the opportunity to travel to Ecuador and into the heart of the Amazon rainforest.  That trip changed my life… and I’m in such gratitude for every moment of it.  I felt a deep, cellular connection to the Earth and to Mother Nature unlike anything I’ve experienced before.  It opened my heart, fueled my spirit, and connected me to a deeper part of my life’s purpose that I wasn’t even aware of before.  There’s definitely more to come about this!

In October, I moved out of my place in San Diego, put all of my stuff in storage, and decided to embark on a spiritual, solo journey throughout Bali, Malaysia, Australia… and now possibly New Zealand and Hawaii.  As I’m writing this, I’m currently on a plane from Perth (Western Australia) to Sydney to celebrate the New Year with some Aussie friends of mine.  This trip has been absolutely life changing as well… and I’m so incredibly grateful for having the opportunity to make a dream like this come true.

I feel like I’m in the process of transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly… and this year has been the “cocoon”, the catalyst, for my biggest life transformation yet!  Thank you, thank you, thank you Spirit!  What a blessing 2011 has been!

Question #2:  In reflecting on this last year, what am I consciously letting go of?

This question is going to require some deep self-reflection and honesty… Most people are unhappy or unsatisfied with aspects of themselves or their lives, but will avoid taking responsibility for it… or they’ll pretend it’s not there and continue on living in old patterns and habits that they know deep down are not in alignment.

It’s so important to take a good look at ourselves and the lives we’re creating, objectively observe what’s working and what’s not without judgment or criticism, and take responsibility for all of it.  We can’t change what we aren’t willing to see.  And when we take full responsibility, without blaming or justifying, we empower ourselves to become the “change-makers” of our own lives.  In choosing to let go of what’s no longer working or serving us, we clear out the “static”, hit the re-set button, and make space for what we DO want to make it’s way through.

For me, I’ve become aware of old self-sabotaging habits that I’m now choosing to consciously let go of.  For starters, I have an old childhood habit of being quite messy and unorganized, even though I feel SO much better when my life and everything in it is in order.  So, instead of letting things pile up to the point of frustration and then judging myself for it, I’m choosing to let go of this old pattern and committing to being organized.

This past year, I’ve also become more keenly aware of those moments in life where I’m being “hard on myself”.  This comes from self judgment and comparing myself to an expectation of how I think I “should” be.  So when I notice this old habit arising, I’m committed to loving and accepting myself unconditionally… and turning self-defeating thoughts into self-affirming ones.  I truly feel that one of the most powerful things we can do for ourselves in life is “have our own back”.   Just like you would unconditionally support a child or a best friend, it’s so important to do the same thing for ourselves!

I’m also choosing to let go of the old habit of “over-thinking” decisions.  Often, I’ll think and re-think and analyze and re-analyze to the point of exhaustion.  And I know that clearly, over-thinking thoughts is NOT the way to clarity!  So I’m choosing to let go of this old habit and committing to listening to my FEELINGS instead, especially when it comes to making decisions.  When I do tune in to my body, and follow my feelings, that’s when true wisdom and clarity emerges, and I’m in a state of flow rather than struggle.  

Question #3:  Who am I committed to being in 2012?

Although I do believe goal setting is important, I also know that there’s something even more important that actually determines whether or not we even meet our goals… and that’s our way of being.   It’s who we are choosing to be, and how we show up, in each and every moment, that matters.

You could have a “goal” of making a 5 figure monthly income this year… but if you shy away from challenges and don’t muster up the courage to go where it’s uncomfortable, you’re unlikely to ever make that goal a reality.  You’ve got to commit and re-commit tobeing courageous again and again in order to be the successful entrepreneur you want to be.

So for me, I’m definitely committed to being courageous without hesitation, especially when it comes to doing things I’ve never done before.  This next year, I’m going to be walking down a new path in many ways… so in maintaining my commitment to being courageous, I know that not only will I reach my goals much faster, but I’ll also be liberating myself from old fears along the way.

I’m also committed to being an inspired action taker.  I love to journal, I love to come up with ideas, I love to envision, to dream, to see possibilities… but unless all of that is balanced with action, it won’t come to fruition and create the impact that I know is possible.  So I’m committed to being in balance as an “inspired action taker”… taking time everyday to stay connected and inspired AND taking action steps everyday to bring my ideas and visions into manifestation.

I’m also committed to being non-judgmental and compassionate.  I know that when I judge others, it’s really just a projection of something “unresolved” within myself that I still judge.  So in choosing to be non-judgmental to myself, I’m naturally non-judgmental with others, and vice versa.  When I choose non-judgment, I’m able to see the truth more clearly… and the underlying innocence and beauty that lives at the core of every human being, no matter what they are saying or doing.  In seeing people for who they really are, compassion arises naturally… and then, not only do I feel more connected, but I’m giving the gift of true connection to others as well.

It was like each other morning except this morning I erudite that Steve Jobs, a man who will everlastingly be remembered as a visionary and creative genius, passed away.

There will be public who say: “So what?”

They just don’t realize the impact this incredible man has had on their lives.

The shock his visionary dreams have had on all of our lives. He was a friend to a lot of of the wealthiest men and women on our planet. He was a adviser to some. He was a tyrant to others.

But he will not almost immediately be forgotten.

I can only picture what it would have been like to get together the legend himself.

To shake his hand and thank him. To express thanks him for the MacBook that lasted through three years of college, and three terrible years of business when my life (and my rent) literally depended on my laptop working every day…

To thank him for an iPod that holds all of the inspirational audio books, seminars, and audio recordings that have made me into the person I am today…

To thank him for the computer that brings you this very newsletter!

It’s too late but I have to say it: “Thank you!”

It’s too late.

However, if you’ll forgive me for saying so, it isn’t too late for you to shake the hands, and thank the men and women in our industry who have had an impact on your life…

What is Facebook’s Subscribe Button ?

Facebook’s new features just won’t stop coming. Just beforerevamping the news feeds of users everywhere, Facebook introduced a new way to share: a subscription feature for personal profiles.

What does the Subscribe button do? Think of it like Twitter, only on Facebook. When you post a public update, it goes out to the news feeds of all your subscribers, sending your message to a wider audience.

Does this mean anything for your social media and email marketing efforts? It could. We’ll break down the essential features with some food for thought about whether the Subscribe button will enhance your overall campaign or not.

So What Is It?

The Subscribe button serves two functions: Allowing users you haven’t “friended” to follow your public updates, and allowing the people you have friended to control how much they see from you.

To start getting public subscribers, you’ll have to enable the feature on your profile. Users can then subscribe through the button on your profile:

…and control what kinds of updates they see.

Subscribers (and your friends) can decide if they want everything you have to offer or just the vital status updates (or any frequency combination in between).

When you post a public status update, your subscribers will see it in their news feeds. (This is where the broader audience comes in.) If your updates aren’t “Public” by default, you’ll have to toggle your privacy settings for each post you want subscribers to see.

Just remember to change your privacy settings for updates you don’t want to broadcast publicly.

So What’s The Marketing Potential?

Now that you know the basics, what does it mean for you or your brand?

That depends on what your marketing priorities are. Don’t ditch your fan page for profile subscribers just yet! The value of a Subscribe option on your profile depends on what you’re marketing.

Facebook lays it out: If you’re marketing a brand or business, use a Page. Pages have the functionality a brand needs, like multiple admins, analytics and targeted updates. But what if you’re marketing yourself?

Some people are their own brands, like writers or celebrities or well-known Internet personalities. Maybe you’re a one-person business, like a contractor or consultant. In this case, you have a choice, which comes down to personal preference.

• An entrepreneur or industry figurehead might need the power of Pages to monitor fans, target conversations and advertise to reach more customers.
• Is your personality a big part of your brand? Maybe you own a consulting firm or design studio. In some industries, personality can play a big factor in winning clients. Your personality shines through best on your own profile, and opening up your posts to subscribers might make the most sense to capitalize on that sense of personal connection.
• Bloggers or freelancers with a smaller following might like the more personal touch of subscriptions. Allowing profile subscribers makes it easy to personally connect with readers without having to “friend” every last stranger.

Tony Bradley, writer for PC World, migrated from a fan page to subscriptions because he finds it simpler to manage. Converting his fans to subscribers made connecting with his followers easier and created richer conversations. He writes:

“There are times when I have posted the same topic to both my personal Facebook social network and my Facebook Page. Each discussion is valuable on its own, but merging the voices into one conversation makes a whole that is more valuable than the sum of its parts.

“…Facebook Pages still have tremendous value for some. But, I think they serve a better purpose for representing things that aren’t an individual to begin with – a company, a band, a product.”

To Recap: Brands, companies and products, stick with Pages. If you are your brand, decide how personal you want to get. Do you need the additional insight and targeting that Pages provides? Or do you want to let your followers in a little closer, interacting with your own profile?

So What Are The Pros And Cons?

Facebook covers the pros and cons checklist for Subscribe vs. Pages pretty well. Here’s our expanded take on pros and cons to consider:

• Pages have analytics that let you track your audience’s activity. How many fans are you gaining? How many are you losing? How many comments are your posts generating? Personal profiles don’t have these capabilities right now.
• Subscribe condenses conversations into one profile. Instead of leading conversations in two places – your Page and your personal profile – everyone you’re connected with (friends and subscribers) can contribute to the conversation in one place.
• Pages better guarantee that most of your audience will see your updates. Subscribers have the option to choose how frequently they hear from you. Fans who like your Page see all your updates – unless they hide your posts or “unlike” your Page. Both of these scenarios act as great reminders to keep your content relevant.
• Pages allow custom tabs – tabs that could, say, feature a web form for fans to sign up to your mailing list. Profiles don’t allow custom tabs right now, which makes it tricky to build your email list. You could always post a link to a hosted web form for your subscribers, but Pages has the advantage for attracting new email subscribers.
• Like Pages, Subscribe makes it easy for new followers to find you. Facebook recommends profiles to subscribe to based on several factors, including similar interests and what you’re posting about. Subscribe makes it easy to expand your audience organically. And users might trust a subscription recommendation over a recommended Page, as it’s featuring a person, not a brand who may have purchased advertising.
• HubSpot notes that the Subscribe button means more content will be publicly available on Facebook, improving search results. Facebook search prioritizes people over Pages, so public content from your personal profile will show up in search results ahead of updates from your Page. Making your message more findable in searches helps broaden your audience.

So What Does It Mean?

It means you’ll need to evaluate your marketing goals. Subscribe isn’t the best option for everyone.

Are you trying to build a following and start your first email list? Opening subscriptions on your personal profile could be a good place to start before setting up a fan page for your brand.

Are you marketing a well-established brand or product? Pages is your best bet in this case, due to the extra marketing power they have over profiles.

Are you marketing yourself to blog readers or clients? You’ll have to decide whether you?ll benefit more from the personal touch of interaction on your own profile or marketing your services as a product with a fan page.
